If possible, test results will be discussed with you after a test has taken place. If it is not possible to discuss test results with you immediately, your clinician will explain when you will receive these results. You may need to arrange another appointment to discuss what the results mean.

Please be patient with the receptionists as they are not medically trained and can only pass on what the doctor has told them.

Generally speaking:

  • most blood test results are available up to 7 days;
  • most x-rays are available up to a month; and
  • cervical smear results are posted directly to the patient within eight weeks.

If the GP wishes to discuss the results then you will be contacted by reception.
